Last Saturday night, Renan Barao made quick work of elite challenger Eddie Wineland after he knocked him out with a highlight-reel spinning back kick in the second round. Barao has now defended the UFC Interim Bantamweight Championship twice, defeating the likes of Urijah Faber and Michael McDonald in the process.
The fans have not been the only ones blown away by Barao’s performances; Dana White sang his praises at the UFC 165 post-fight press conference:
“The closest thing to [Floyd Mayweather] is this kid right here. He’s gone undefeated for eight years, Floyd has gone undefeated for 17 years. Do you know how hard it is to go eight years undefeated? Seriously, think about that. He doesn’t get enough credit for the record he has and what this guy is capable of doing, and it’s not just like he’s undefeated and he goes to decision and outpoints you. This dude [**expletive**] destroys you.”
It turns out the media agrees with the UFC President.
The official UFC Rankings have been updated and Renan Barao has leapfrogged UFC Flyweight Champion Demetrious Johnson, landing the sixth spot in the Pound-For-Pound rankings.
