UFC president Dana White sent out a tweet earlier today revealing the news that former #1 UFC lightweight contender, Anthony Pettis (16-2), had injured his knee and was out of his divisional debut against featherweight champion, Jose Aldo (22-1) at UFC 163. Pettis dropped to featherweight for this bout in an attemt to steal gold at the lighter division:
Now it seems that Pettis will have to put things on hold.
Stepping in for Pettis will be Chan-Sung Jung (13-3). Jung was expected to take on Ricardo Lamas on the UFC 162 card on June 6th. Jung is on a three-fight win streak and is returning to action after his fight with Dustin Poirier which earned both ‘Fight of the Night’ and ‘Submission of the Night’ bonus’. Jung has received a bonus for each of his three UFC fights.
No opponent has been named for Lamas who, at this time, remains on the UFC 162 main card.
UFC 163 takes place at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on August 3rd. The main card starts at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT.
