NSAC Approves Measures For Lifetime Bans On Drug Users

The Nevada State Athletic Commission seems to be following UFC’s lead with more severe drug test enforcement as they have approved several new rules that are to be added to their book for drug test failure punishments.

The UFC started to crack down on performance enhancing drug use in their promotion after Hector Lombard tested positive for steroids. Even though the NSAC already dealt Lombard a punishment, UFC still swiftly removed him from the UFC rankings which, at the time, effected his ability to earn Reebok sponsorship money.

Now, the Nevada State Athletic Commission will be suspending first time offenders for up to three years as well as penalizing them half of their purse. Three strikes will earn you a ban for life.

Testing positive for weed will force a fighter to sit on the sidelines for eighteen months and up to 40% of their purse for a first time offense. If he/she fails four times, they earn themselves a lifetime ban.

Fighters who fail three times for diuretics and stimulants will also receive a lifetime ban, according to a document ESPN’s Brett Okamoto obtained.
