Earlier this week it was revealed that former welterweight kingpin Georges St Pierre had been cleared to return to training, and stepped back into Tristar gym to have his first training session. Despite GSP returning to training, UFC President Dana White stated that St. Pierre would let the UFC know when, and if he’s ready to return to the Octagon.
With Johny Hendricks and Robbie Lawler set to have a rematch in December at UFC 180, and Rory MacDonald as the #1 contender, many fans have been wondering who GSP would face upon returning to the Octagon. Enter Matt ‘The Immortal’ Brown, winner of 7 of his last 8 fights, with his only loss coming via decision at the hands of Robbie Lawler in a #1 contender match.
Brown spoke on The Great MMA Debate Podcast:
“That’s a huge, huge fight. I’d love to have that fight. I always thought I matched up well with him.”
“I think I am in the right position for it. I’m not the champion, he’s not going to come back and get the championship fight right off the bat. I’m in the right position. I can look at it objectively on paper and see that he would be the favorite. I would hope that it would be a five rounder. I would love to do it. I’ve always wanted to fight Georges.”
