Heavyweight sluggers Mark “Super Samoan” Hunt (9-8 MMA, 4-2 UFC) and Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva (18-5 MMA, 2-2 UFC) will meet in a five-round main event bout when the UFC returns to Australia this December.
UFC executives officially announced the event today as “UFC Fight Night 33,” which takes place on Decemeber 7 in the Queensland capital at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre.
The 39-year-old New Zealander, Mark Hunt, was last seen in the octagon at UFC 160 in May, where he suffered a KO loss to former UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos in a “Fight of the night” performance. Prior to the JDS loss, the “Super Samoan” had strung together 4-straight victories inside the octagon. Hunt defeated opponents Ben Rothwell and Cheick Kongo, plus earned “knockout of the night” bonuses for his KO wins over Stefan Struve and Chris Tuchscherer during the win-streak.
Meanwhile, “Bigfoot” will also be looking to return to the win column this Decmeber when he takes on Hunt. Silva was last seen in action during the main event of UFC 160, where he was TKO’d by UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez in his bid for the title. Prior to his title fight loss, “Bigfoot” has scored impressive stoppage victories over former Strikeforce champ Alistair Oveereem and perennial heavyweight contender Travis “Hapa” Browne.
Broadcast plans for the event have yet to be announced, but it is expected that “UFN 33” will air on FOX Sports 1 following the prelims on Facebook. Due to the time difference, the event takes place Saturday, Dec. 7, in Australia (but Friday, Dec. 6, in the U.S.).
