Rory MacDonald is gearing up for his UFC Fight Night Halifax bout against Tarec Saffiedine tomorrow. The bout will be MacDonald’s first time headlining an event, and what better place to do that, than in his home country of Canada.
He joined MMAJunkie to discuss the bout, as well as what he has to gain from fighting Saffiedine.
“I think what I gain is a title shot. It’s obvious another victory over a top 10 guy leaves no other choice than to give me a title shot. Plus, I think I’m the best pick for this spot anyway. It’s an obvious choice.”
“It’s a milestone for me to main event for the UFC in Canada It’s a major accomplishment. I’m very happy to achieve that and I hope to put on the best performance of my career.”
“I have nerves for sure. I’ve had fights before where I wasn’t nervous and I prefer to have butterflies for sure. It helps you get in that zone you need to when you fight.
“I think I just need to be myself. I need to bring my best version like I did against Woodley. I’m looking to be at my best for Tarec on Saturday.”
“I think it’s good timing for me. This fight is happening and (the title fight) is not far behind. Obviously the winners of these two fights are on a crash course.”
