A welterweight tilt between Jake Shields and Demian Maia is set to headline the UFC Fight Night 29 show in Sao Paulo, Brazil on October 9th. BJPENN.com reported the news back in July as the bout was said to take place later this year by UFC Tonight. The location has now been confirmed by MMAFighting.com.
Shields is coming off of a split decision win over Tyron Woodley at UFC 156. Shields has flip-flopped divisions in his previous two, fighting in both the welterweight and middleweight divisions, two that he has a vast amount of experience in. Shields has already tasted title contention in the division as he fought Georges St-Pierre in his sophomore fight in the UFC, losing a lop-sided decision.
Demian Maia returns from a bout on the same card as Shield’s latest, UFC 156. Maia defeated former perenial top-contender, Jon Fitch, overpowering Fitch, beating him at his own game. This win marked Maia’s third in a row as he is unbeaten in the 170-pound division with wins over Fitch, Rick Story and Dong-Hyun Kim.
UFC Fight Night 29 takes place on October 9th in Sao Paulo Brazil. In the co-main event slot, another welterweight fight takes place as Dong-Hyun Kim takes on Erick Silva.
