Johny Hendricks and Robbie Lawler put on a spectacular performance when the pair fought for the vacant UFC welterweight title back in March. Hendricks ended up taking the decision, as well as the welterweight strap, but has been unable to defend the belt since due to a torn bicep.
Robbie Lawler on the other hand has been on a tear, proving why he deserves a rematch against Hendricks. After a dominant TKO victory over Jake Ellenberger in May, Lawler defeated Matt Brown via decision in July to earn the #1 contender spot.
Hendricks manager spoke to ESPN.com about when his client would be ready to fight, saying:
“I know everyone would have loved January, but it doesn’t look like that’s going to work out. I’m thinking he fights in February or March. The last thing the UFC wanted was to start promoting a fight and have to postpone it if Johny had a setback. He’s well past that point now but the schedule is full. He’s a main event fighter and all the main events are taken. It looks like he’ll fight sometime in February.”
