Gustafsson Talks Reebok Deal, Says It’s ‘Sad To See’ Young Fighters Losing Money

Alexander Gustafsson

UFC light heavyweight Alexander Gustafsson will once again fight for the title when he takes on Daniel Cormier at UFC 192, which goes down on Oct. 3.

It will be the second time Gustafsson will challenge for the title, having already fought and loss to former champ Jon Jones.

Gustafsson’s quite possibly the UFC’s biggest European fighter, which certainly helped him earn his second shot, since he’s coming off of a KO loss to Anthony Johnson in his last outing. But never the less, he’ll fight for the gold once again. Ahead of that fight the fighter spoke with MMAJunkie about what he would change if he was in charge of the UFC.

Here’s his answer:

“Pay the fighters a lot more money. For all the hard work and the sacrifices fighters generally do to fight, I think they’re a little bit underpaid. The same thing with the Reebok deal, too. I don’t have anything negative to say about it. I just think, why take away from fighters who haven’t established themselves in the organization? They have a hard time already, so why take away the small sponsors so they can pay the rent and pay their bills? Why take that away too? Really squeezing that last money from the fighters that haven’t been established yet. I think it’s sad to see.”
