Garreth McLellan thinks the referee was ‘a little bit slow’ on “UFC Fight Night 76” stoppage

Ultimate Fighting Championship made their return to Dublin, Ireland with “UFC Fight Night 76″ and it was scheduled to be a stacked evening of fights on UFC Fight Pass. However, the removal of the Joseph Duffy and Stipe Miocic’s fights due to injury caused the card to undergo a major facelift just days before the card went live. Lucky for the fans in attendance, fighters like Garreth McLellan brought excitement to a card that could have been a potential disaster.

McLellan kicked off the night of fights with a last minute technical knockout victory over Bubba Bush. McLellan could feel like fight was about to go to judges decision and chose to let out one last fury of punches while on top of his opponent. It turns out he made the right choice; the referee stopped the fight with just two seconds remaining.

The only reason the stoppage was questionable was because it could have easily been stopped earlier. McLellan believes he knocked his opponent out twice during the fury seen above.

“I think I could’ve pushed another minute, but I wasn’t going until he stopped,” McLellan told MMA Junkie. “I actually think I put him out twice, and I think the ref was a little bit slow on it— but obviously not to his fault because he couldn’t see. It was very quick. He made a good call to stop the fight.”

McLellan is not used to performing in front of that many fans and he zoned in on pummeling his opponent after he heard the roar of the Irish crowd. “But that crowd, once you get that roar and that spark behind you, I felt unstoppable.”
