Frank Mir vs. Antonio Silva set for UFC 184 in L.A.

Frank Mir

A heavyweight clash will take place at February’s UFC 184 event, as UFC officials announced yesterday that former UFC champion Frank Mir (16-9 MMA, 14-9 UFC) will battle Antonio Silva (18-6-1 MMA, 2-3-1 UFC) in Los Angeles.

Frank Mir finds himself in a must-win situation, this after dropping 4-straight fights inside the ocatagon. After earning a submission win over Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira at UFC 140 in December of 2011, Mir has since suffered losses to Junior dos Santos, Daniel Cormier, Josh Barnett and Alistair Overeem respectively.

Meanwhile, former two-time title challenger Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva will also be looking to bounce back in to the win column when he takes on Mir this February. “Bigfoot” was last seen in action in September, where he suffered a brutal first-round knockout loss to former UFC champion Andrei Arlovski. Prior the setback, Silva was coming off a draw against Mark Hunt, which many consider to be the greatest heavyweight fight of all-time.

UFC 184 takes place February 28 live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. The event is headlined by a middleweight title fight featuring current title holder Chris Weidman taking on #1 contender Vitor Belfort.
