UFC welterweight contender Matt Brown (19-11 MMA, 12-5 UFC) is coming off a thrilling “Fight of the night” performance that saw him TKO Erick Silva in the third-round of their main event brawl earlier this month in Cincinnati.
Since earning his seventh consecutive octagon win, “The Immortal” has received call-outs from a handful of fighters, most recently Stockton Slugger Nate Diaz.
On yesterdays new edition of “UFC Tonight,” UFC President Dana White shutdown the idea of Nate moving up a weightclass to fight Brown:
“We never even considered that fight,” White said. “[Nate Diaz] has lost two of his last three fights, and Brown is on this unbelievable roll. Brown is a welterweight and has been fighting there a long time. He deserves a top contender.”
The Zuffa fight boss went on to say that if Nate’s older brother Nick was interested in coming out of retirement to fight Brown, that the UFC would do that fight:
“Listen, if Nick Diaz wants to come out and fight Brown, I’d do that fight.”
The ball is now in Nick’s court, whether or not he chooses to play remains to be seen.
One thing’s for sure, a Nick Diaz vs. Matt Brown match-up would have all the makings for a potential “Fight of the year.”
