After a thriller of a main event, UFC Fight Night 28 main event winner, Glover Teixeira will get a title shot against the winner of the light-heavyweight title fight headlining the upcoming UFC 165 between Jon Jones takes on Alexander Gustafsson.
UFC executive Mark Zelaznik confirmed the news at the post-fight press conference following Wednesday’s card:
“Dana confirmed it; Glover gets the next title shot,”
Teixeira notched his 20th career victory as he dispatched Ryan Bader by TKO after being badly rocked by Bader just moments earlier.
Teixeira stated after that fight that he wasn’t pleased with his performance, as it seemed Bader was close to finishing the fight, but would accept a title fight if given to him.
Now Teixeira has been granted that shot and seems confident that no matter who he faces, (he picked Jones to defeat Gustafsson) he will become the light heavyweight champion:
“My dream is to get the belt. I believe Jon Jones will win (against Alexander Gustafsson) and that’s my preference,” said Teixeira at the post-fight presser “Jon Jones has held the belt for a very long time.
“I believe if I hit him, he will go down.”
Jon Jones looks to defend his title at UFC 165 on September 21st against Alexander Gustafsson. UFC 165 takes place at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
