UFC President Dana White was ever so confident that Holly Holm and Ronda Rousey would meet in an immediate rematch after Holm shocked the world at UFC 193. However, nearly two months after Rousey was knocked out by Holm, White does not sound so confident in the bout shortly after Holm signed a multiyear contract extension with the UFC.
“I honestly don’t know what we’re going to do,” White told The Los Angeles Times in a Monday telephone conversation.
“I’ve got to talk to Ronda,” White said. “I haven’t had one business conversation with her since her fight.”
While Rousey said prior to losing at UFC 193 that she would be taking time off from fighting, it may take even longer for her to get back in the Octagon recovering from the injuries sustained in her bout with Holm. With an added commitment of filming two movies, the return of Rousey may be much longer than expected.
Holm and her camp have mentioned that they would like to stay active and fight the top contender if Rousey would not be able to prepare in a timely manner, and when asked if that was the case on Monday, White said, “It’s possible.”
“We have nothing done yet,” for either fighters’ next bout, White said. “We have a lot of work to do.”
