Following his main event victory over Jeremy Stephens at Saturday’s “UFC Fight Night 44” event in San Antonio, perennial contender Cub Swanson (21-5 MMA, 6-1 UFC) did a post fight interview with FOX Sports 1 where he stated his desire to rematch featherweight kingpin Jose Aldo:
“Of course I want to fight Aldo,” said Swanson. “That’s like Weidman beating Silva you know. I want to be the guy to dethrone the legend.”
Jose Aldo (24-1 MMA, 6-0 UFC) will rematch Chad Mendes (16-1 MMA, 7-1 UFC) at August’s UFC 176 event in Los Angeles, and while Cub would prefer to take the gold from “Scarface”, beating “Money” would be just fine too:
“I want to fight Aldo. But fighting for gold is fighting for gold.” stated Swanson.
Cub lost a unanimous decision to Chad Mendes at WEC 50 in 2010. So, no matter who holds the strap after UFC 176 (Mendes or Aldo), Swanson will be looking for redemption if granted a title shot.
