Former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua has fallen on some hard time as of late, but he seems to be getting back on path to regain the momentum he once had years ago.

After suffering consecutive losses at the hands of Dan Henderson and Ovince Saint Preux, Shogun inked a fight with Antonio Rogerio Nogueira for UFC 190 and seems to be getting back to his muay-thai roots. Rafael Cordeiro, his coach, is ecstatic to see how much work Rua has been put at the gym.

“I’m happy to see how much trust people put in the work we do and how many people are sending messages of support to Shogun.” Cordeiro said to Portal do Vale Tudo. “He was with me to help Werdum in Mexico and now we’re back here. It has been great. We have a lot of good guys over here and he’s training with all of them. He is developing his game again, that heavy Muay Thai game. We will do everything to put him back where he belongs. He’s a unique athlete, has a lot of knockout power. He is remembering Muay Thai, now, that heavy, pressuring Muay Thai.”
