Newly-crowned UFC lightweight champion Anthony “Showtime” Pettis (17-2 MMA, 4-1 UFC) is all about finishing his opponents.

In fact, during his six years as a professional mixed martial artist, Pettis has only gone the distance five times in 19 fights and has recorded 14 stoppage victories in the process.

As “Showtime” prepares to defend his title for the first time against Josh Thomson (20-5 MMA, 3-1 UFC) at UFC on FOX 9 on December 14 in Sacramento, his goal of finishing his opponents remains the same, as he told “The MMA Hour”:

“He’s 35-years-old, his last chance at a title shot and I know he’s coming hard. There’s no bad blood, he was calling me out before the Henderson fight, so I think he really wants the title fight bad and I’m not going to take it easy on him. I’m going to finish him just like I’ve been finishing everybody else. My goal is to knock you out in the first round. I want to finish all of the guys in the first round. That’s what I’m shooting for. I want to finish every fight. I don’t want anybody going past five minutes with me.”
