It was announced last month that UFC middleweight #1 contender Yoel Romero had failed a drug test following his fight with Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza at UFC 194 in December.
Romero was suspended indefinitely while the UFC and USADA made sense of the situation before the NSAC set a date for a hearing with the NSAC.
On The MMA Hour, Romero and his manager Malki Kawa revealed that Romero’s drug test was contaminated with a banned substance which was not listed on the packaging of a product which Romero was using.
“The substance has a label with a bunch of stuff on it,” Kawa said. “None of that is illegal to take. What he got popped for is not on the label. So it’s obviously not his fault that he popped for this.”
Romero’s potential punishment apparently ranges from a “public warning” up to a two-year suspension.
