Even though former WSOF champion Rousimar Palhares asked to be released from the promotion, following his indefinite suspension and being striped of his title due to his actions during his fight with Jake Shields, it looks like he will not be getting his wish.
Palhares is currently waiting to appear in front of the Nevada State Athletic Commission to find out what his punishment will be for seemingly scratching at Shields’ eyes and then holding his fight ending submission too long.
WSOF’s Ali Abdelaziz recently talked to MMAJunkie and told them that they will not be making any moves until after the NSAC makes their ruling.
“The guy, we all know he has some problems, and he’s working on them. He’s got a great team around him (with) the Nogueira brothers and other people, and it’s going to be up to the athletic commission. The Nevada commission is going to make a decision, and after that, we’ll follow. We have to respect their decision.
“But for now, Palhares is a WSOF fighter. I believe he’s one of the best welterweights in the world, but that’s not what concerns me the most. What concerns me the most is his wellbeing. I hope everything works out for him.”
