Earlier this month, aging MMA legend Vitor Belfort was knocked senseless by a younger, faster, stronger fighter in Kelvin Gastelum. In the wake of this decisive loss, the declining legend explained that he would like to fulfill the last fight on his contract before retiring – ideally at UFC 212 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil this June.
Shortly thereafter, Belfort generated headlines by suggesting he’d like his retirement fight to be against former WWE star CM Punk – a welterweight with almost no martial arts experience, and a 0-1 professional MMA record. Unsurprisingly, this callout generated some negative responses from the MMA community – including one from notoriously outspoken middleweight champ Michael Bisping.
This is a sign of the p*ssy that Vitor Belfort is,” Bisping said on his Believe You Me podcast. “the very fact that somebody would take steroids their entire career, then get their ass kicked, then call out CM Punk, I’m not surprised motherf*ckers. It’s a simple as that and that just speaks volumes to the character and the level of a man that Vitor Belfort is. I wouldn’t f*cking piss on him if he was on fire.”
These scathing comments from Bisping have now generated a response from Belfort. The Brazilian legend made this response in a lengthy post to Instagram.

With his recent loss to Gastelum, Belfort fell onto a three-fight skid, as his two next most recent bouts have seen him TKO’d by top contenders Gegard Mousasi and Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza. This skid was preceded by a win over fellow legend Dan Henderson, which was in turn preceded by another TKO loss to then-champion Chris Weidman.
Bisping, meanwhile, is on a five-fight streak. In his most recent bouts, he has scored a controversial defeat of middleweight legend Anderson Silva, knocked out Luke Rockhold to win the UFC middleweight title, and scored another controversial decision win over Dan Henderson. He’ll next take on returning former welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre in a heavily criticized middleweight title fight.
