Fans were devastated when news broke that the UFC interim lightweight title fight between top contenders Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson was canceled the day before UFC 209 was set to take place back in March.
Nurmagomedov suffered some health problems in his attempt in making weight for the fight and was transferred to the Sunrise Hospital & Medical Center hours before the start of the early weigh-ins.
Recently, Nurmagomedov explained that he is going through rehabilitation in a medical facility and expects to be back in training this summer and will look to return to competition in the fall. “The Eagle” stated that he is only looking to fight Ferguson as they have unfinished business to take care of.
Ferguson was in the FOX studios on Sunday working as an analyst for the UFC Fight Night 112 event that took place in Oklahoma and took some time to address Nurmagomedov’s recent comments.
“Team Khabib, I’m sorry, I mean Team Tiramisu, message is for you,” Ferguson said. “You checked yourself into rehab. What you need to do is find Jenny Craig. You need a dietician, my friend. You say ‘we have unfinished business.’ I showed up, I made weight. You decided to chicken out, my friend. Actually, you’re not my friend. I don’t like you at all. You don’t even come close to it.
“I mean, you and your fuzzy hat, it’s all amazing and everything. It’s great. But, I can’t wait to shut that hype train down. So, maybe if you’re lucky and you beg me enough, I might give you that one chance to get that belt against numero uno, right here. Until then, have fun making that weight cut.”
