TJ Dillashaw has been busy preparing for his shot at regaining the UFC bantamweight title with his fight against champion Cody Garbrandt approaching.
We saw some video of Dillashaw training with Olympic boxing star Vasyl Lomachenko recently and Fight Hub TV caught up with Dillashaw to get his take on some of the latest buzzing fight topics. With getting some training in with a high-level boxer, Dillashaw was asked for his pick in the potential Mayweather vs. McGregor boxing match.
“Ah, Mayweather man,” Dillashaw said. “I think so. Just because of the experience, you know? I always doubt him, though. I always doubt McGregor and we’ll see. He’s big.”
Dillashaw was then asked to clarify what he meant about always doubting McGregor.
“Just from the beginning,” Dillashaw said. “My training partner Chad Mendes when he fought him you know, going into that fight, we knew some big holes in Conor’s game and Chad exploited it. Chad got to train 10 days for that fight, beat him up for two rounds and then he gassed out and got beat. So, I just doubted the holes he had in his game. Diaz exploited it as well that he does have some big holes and then now he’s going to fight the best boxer ever you know? So it’s kind of crazy but McGregor’s huge man. He’s a big dude. He walks around 180 probably. So, that’s a big difference between him and Mayweather.”
Regarding his own fight coming up against Garbrandt, Dillashaw says he is confident going into the bout as the two are former teammates and their time spent training together gives him a good idea of what will happen in the Octagon. However, Dillashaw does state that there is a difference between practice and competition but is confident on getting the belt back in his hands.
