All the talk about a potential boxing match between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather has been simply talk at this point.
With Conor McGregor taking a break from competition in the UFC Octagon with a baby due in the summer of 2017, “The Notorious” made a lot of heads turn when it was revealed that the Irish superstar received a boxing license and was trying to get licensed in multiple states.
Although Conor McGregor getting his boxing license seemed to surely make some sort of statement, he is still under contract with the UFC but it certainly has caught the attention of a lot of those in the world of boxing.
Former IBF junior welterweight and WBA welterweight champion Pauli Malignaggi has made his attempt to get the attention of Conor McGregor and boxing legend Oscar De La Hoya is dreaming of the only boxing fight he would like to see Conor McGregor in, which would be against his Golden Boy Promotions boxer Canelo Alvarez.
“If Conor is serious about fighting, first of all, I would love to talk to him and promote him,” De La Hoya said. “Imagine Conor McGregor and Golden Boy coming together? But, the only fight I would love to see, and this is the one that makes the most sense, that would be the most exciting, that would be a guaranteed knockout is against Canelo Alvarez. And, they’re the same weight class. So it makes all the sense in the world. I mean imagine, yeah 154, 160, actually. It would be at 160.
“So, I mean imagine,” De La Hoya said of the matchup. “It would be a hell of a fight. That’s for sure.”
