While some will still argue that the 10th round TKO stoppage in the Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor boxing match was either early or justified, the man delivering the punches is glad he didn’t knock “The Notorious” out cold.

In an interview following their multi-million dollar boxing match, Mayweather was asked if he wished that the ref did not stop the fight to give him the chance to put McGregor to sleep, which the Irishman said he would have preferred.

“He has a career. You know, he still has a career. He’s still young,” said Mayweather.

The 50-0 boxer was interjected and commented that a knockout would be damaging to McGregor’s career.

“Very, very damaging,” affirmed Mayweather. “We have to think about these fighters.

“Even, like, my uncle Roger. Right now, I just got a call, just before I came here, he keep walking off, wandering off. No one can find him. He end up in a hospital. So, brain damage – it happens. It happens.”

Mayweather added that it’s the wear and tear of being a fighter.

This is also one of the reasons Mayweather has promised his family that this fight with McGregor was his final competition. “Money” has talked about how it hurts him to see his uncle in his condition. Fortunately, Floyd Mayweather has been very smart in his boxing career and has been known for his defensive boxing prowess as opponents have had a hard time hitting him in the ring. Nonetheless, as Mayweather said, there is always the wear and tear of being a combat sports athlete no matter who you are.
