It’s no secret that wrestling is one of the most useful tools in MMA. Wrestlers possess the unique ability of dictating where the fight takes place. A wrestling background also poses a significant threat due to the fact that an opponent could be hesitant to throw strikes for fear of being taken down.
Tristar gym head coach Firas Zahabi has released a video showing a rather unique defense to a single leg takedown. The technique not only helps the fighter defend against the takedown, but also puts the fighter in a position to end up in top position with a sweep, or finish the fight with a submission.
The 5 minute breakdown from Zahabi, who frequently releasees pre-fight breakdowns ahead of PPV events, includes step by step instructions on how to defend against a traditional single leg takedown, and either secure the submission, or sweep the opponent.
