VIDEO | Dylan Andrews scores a thunderous KO over fellow UFC veteran

Dylan Andrews scores big KO win

Over the weekend, Sweden’s Superior Challenge hosted its 15th card. In the main event of this card, which emanated from beautiful Stockholm, Sweden, we saw two UFC veterans collide for the organization’s middleweight crown. In one corner was Sweden’s own Papy Abedi. In the other, was New Zealand’s Dylan Andrews. This bout was a rematch of an August 2013 bout, which saw Andrews win by third round knockout.

Once again, Andrews proved to be a walking nightmare for the Swede.

Mid-way through the second round, the kiwi uncorked a head-kick from hell. Though Abedi seemed to block this kick with his forearms, the impact was severe enough to send him careening to the mat, where he landed in the supine position, completely unconscious. This bout marked Andrews first since early 2015, when he was released by the UFC after three-straight losses to Clint Hester, Sam Alvey and Bradley Scott. Needless to say, he showed little signs of ring rust. His last win, which occurred all the way in August of 2013, was his first knockout of Abedi. The 37-year-old New Zealander is 18-7-1 overall, and with a few more emphatic wins on the regional circuit, might well get a callback from the UFC.

Abedi, meanwhile, returns to the loss column after an October 2016 win over Bruno Carvalho, which also occurred under the Superior Challenge banner. His most recent bout before that was his first loss to Andrews, which marked the end of his short run in the UFC’s Octagon. The 38-year-old Swede is now 10-4 in sum.

What do you think of this brutal knockout win from Dylan Andrews? Do you think the Kiwi striking specialist should be given another chance in the UFC? Sound off, PENN Nation!
