While Dana White is talking about still making a rematch between TJ Dillashaw and Cody Garbrandt, Dillashaw’s trainer Duane Ludwig is still pushing for the Demetrious Johnson superfight. It makes sense considering Johnson himself has said they’re in negotiations for co-main event of UFC 226 with Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormier. As with most things, it’s probably both fighters wanting the money they deserve that is stalling things, but Ludwig says that no matter what the obstacles, this fight needs to happen for the future of MMA.

“[TJ Dillashaw]’s a ninja. That’s why he’s the champion and that’s why he’s going to fight Demetrious [Johnson]. Demetrious, where you at buddy? C’mon, Demetrious. Let’s make this happen. Whether I’m TJ’s trainer, or friend, or instructor, or Sensei or not, right? For me, just as a martial art enthusiast, I want to see that fight happen to see who truly is the best mixed martial artist.”

“As far as human evolution and just history in general, these are the two that are at the highest peak of martial arts evolution. We have to see them fight just for the pure entertainment standpoint, or just for the evolutionary standpoint. We have to see them fight. He’s not a big 135er. He has to eat and lift to be at 150 to cut to 135. If he wasn’t lifting and eating excess calories, he’d be probably mid-140’s. So, he can make 125. That’s why we’re going to make this happen. There is no question that a fight between TJ Dillashaw and Demetrious Johnson would be most likely the highest level MMA fight so far in our human advancement. This would straight up look like a Dragon Ball Z fight. There’s no question that Johnson has run laps around his cleared division, resulting in people clamoring for him to face a true challenge for years now. As for Dillashaw, in eight fights he’s only lost to Dominick Cruz, avenged one of his only three career losses by beating Raphael Assuncao, and knocked out Cody Garbrandt. All after his series of fights taking out bantamweight’s Jose Aldo, Renan Barao. He’s the champ and 15-3, he deserves this as well.
