Ahead of UFC veteran Diego Sanchez’s UFC Fight Night 108 scrap with Al Iaquinta, ‘The Nightmare’ is looking to strengthen his chin in an effort to avoid being knocked out.
Details are scarce regarding the video at the present time, however the device appears to be used to strengthen the jaw muscles as Sanchez moves his chin in and out against the resistance of the band wrapped around the back of his neck.
With that being said of course, it is well known that it is not the jaw muscles which protect a fighter from a knockout, but rather the neck muscles, which minimize the amount a person’s head moves, thus minimizing the amount the person’s brain moves – the cause of a concussion.
Sanchez is coming off a win in his most recent Octagon outing at the TUF Latin America 3 Finale, where he picked up a unanimous decision win over Marcin Held in an impressive performance that saw Sanchez use the Octagon wall to escape a guillotine choke in one of the most impressive displays of determination.
Sanchez will of course be fighting Al Iaquinta, who will enter the Octagon on a 4-fight win streak. With that being said, it has been almost two years since Iaquinta has been in the Octagon. In his last fight, Iaquinta fought Jorge Masvidal at ‘UFC Fight Night: Fairfax’ in April of 2015, where he picked up an extremely controversial split decision win, which has been dubbed one of the ‘biggest robberies’ in the history of MMA.
After a contract dispute with the UFC, Iaquinta ended up taking an indefinite leave of absence from the UFC, during which he explained that his MMA career was over. Fortunately, with the new year, fight fans will be able to see Iaquinta in the Octagon once again.
