At EFN 58, former UFC fighter Diego Brandao picked up an impressive 2nd round armbar win over Murad Machaev in what could very well be an early contender for ‘Submission of the Year’.
For Brandao, the fight served as his first since being released by the UFC after being arrested and charged with aggravated battery with bodily harm after pistol whipping a man, and then punching several other men outside of a strip club back in August of 2016. While he has expressed his hopes for one day getting back to the UFC, he remains on the regional scene at the present time.
Brandao had been a staple of the UFC’s featherweight division for quite some time, entering into the UFC in 2011 after winning The Ultimate Fighter season 14 by submitting Dennis Bermudez. Following the win, he compiled a 6-4 record with the UFC before then being released.
