This past weekend, CM Punk made his highly anticipated UFC debut against Mickey Gall. The fight, which took place nearly 2 years after CM Punk’s signing to the UFC, also served as the former WWE champion’s MMA debut.
Unfortunately for Punk, his time in the Octagon was extremely brief as he was immediately taken down by Gall. The young star proceeded to land ground and pound before taking Punk’s back and submitting him.
Following the fight, the MMA community was torn on its reactions to the fight. While some, like UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor, praised Punk for having the courage to step into the Octagon, others believe that he had no business being in the Octagon in the first place.
Regardless, Punk has now dropped to 0-1 in his professional MMA career. While UFC President Dana White has stated that if Punk wants another MMA fight, it probably shouldn’t be in the UFC, only time will tell if Punk chooses to once again pursue an MMA fight.
In the video above you can see the walkout, and fight, in real time with Punk’s lead cornerman Duke Roufus mic’d up as he gives the 37 year old Chicago native instructions in his first MMA fight.
