UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov has referred to the former champion Conor McGregor as a “chicken” many times over the last few years.
“Your guy [Conor McGregor], at the beginning of the year tapped like a chicken [to Nate Diaz],” Nurmagomedov famously said after his 2016 defeat of Michael Johnson. “At the end of the year, he fights for the title – crazy. You know, guys, this is true. This is not trash-talking.”
“Ireland only has six million people, Russia has 150 million,” he continued. “I want to fight your chicken! This is number-one easy fight in the lightweight division.”
Now, a supermarket in Nurmagomedov’s native Dagestan has followed suit.
In a video that’s been circulating on Twitter, we can see proof of this supermarket’s McGregor diss, as a shrink-wrapped chicken has clearly been labelled “Конор Мак Грегор” — the Cyrillic spelling of Conor McGregor.
Khabib Nurmagomedov captured the UFC lightweight title last weekend, defeating last-minute replacement opponent Al Iaquinta by unanimous decision in the main event of the chaos-infused UFC 223 card. In the same evening, the UFC quietly stripped Conor McGregor of the lightweight title, as he had not defended the title since winning it with a November 2016 knockout of Eddie Alvarez.
At present, Nurmagomedov and McGregor share one of the most heated rivalries in MMA. This rivalry came to a head last week, when Nurmagomedov had words with McGregor’s training partner Artem Lobov, and McGregor responded by attacking the shuttle bus that was supposed to carry Nurmagomedov to a UFC 223 press conference.
