On this day in MMA history 6 years ago, Chael Sonnen fought Nate Marquardt on the main card of UFC 109. The winner of the fight got a title shot against Anderson Silva.
Sonnen won the fight via unanimous decision and was awarded the title shot. As everyone knows Sonnen beat Silva up over the course of 5 rounds until a late submission gave Silva the win.
