A heavyweight bout featuring former Strikeforce and DREAM champion Alistair Overeem taking on Sergey Pavlovich co-headlined tonight’s UFC Beijing event.
Alistair Overeem entered tonight’s UFC Beijing event on a two-fight losing streak. “The Reem” suffered stoppage losses to Curtis Blaydes and Francis Ngannou in his two most recent efforts.
Prior to the setbacks, Overeem was coming off back-to-back wins over opponents Mark Hunt and Fabricio Werdum.
Meanwhile, Alistair Overeem’s opponent, Sergey Pavlovich, will be making his promotional debut at tonight’s event. The undefeated Russian has gone 12-0 thus far in his career, earning nine knockout victories in those twelve contests.
Round one of the UFC Beijing co-main event begins and Overeem takes the center of the octagon. He feints with a left hand. Sergey paws with his jab and then throws a front kick to the body of “The Reem”. Pavlovich leaps in with a right hand that just misses. He pushes forward and throws an uppercut. Overeem side steps and then leaps in and initiates the clinch. Pavlovich pushes him against the cage and drops down for a takedown. Overeem defends the shot and lands a knee. He pushes his Russian opponent against the cage and lands a nice knee. Alistair Overeem with a left hand. Sergey breaks free and then leaps in with a combination. “The Reem” with a big right hand up the middle. He scores a trip takedown and begins working from Pavlovich’s full guard. A big right hand lands for Overeem. One minute remains in the opening round. Overeem with some big right hands and then some hammer fists. This is close to being stopped and it is! Alistair Overeem is back ladies and gentlemen!
