Originally scheduled for Curitiba, UFC 237 has been moved to Rio De Janeiro. Therefore the festivities will still be going down in the country of Brazil.
With only three bouts known of for the event prior to this weekend, we now know three more.
In the bantamweight division, we’ll be getting the return of former title challenger, Bethe “Pitbull” Correia (10-3-1). Welcoming her back to the Octagon for the first time since June 2017 will be Mexican striking sensation, the No. 10 ranked contender, Irene Aldana (9-4).
This pairing was actually supposed to go down as early as August 2018 when the two were booked to fight at UFC 227. That was until Correia couldn’t get cleared to compete by the California Athletic Commission following her eye surgery.
Also in the bantamweight division, we’ll be getting a divisional return as the fan favorite, “Jessy Jess” Jessica-Rose Clark (9-5) moves back up to 135-pounds to take on Talita Bernardo (6-3).
Clark left the bantamweight division in late 2017 when she debuted in the UFC opposite Bec Rawlings. She would go on to defeat Paige VanZant before suffering a loss to Jessica Eye.
Then during her weight cut for her most recently scheduled bout with Andrea Lee at UFC on Fox 31, she would faint in preparation thus canceling the fight and prompting the move back up in weight.
Lastly of the fight announcements was a flyweight match-up as China’s Yanan Wu (10-2) will make the trip overseas to face the promotional newcomer, Luana “Dread” Carolina (5-1) who earned her UFC contract on Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series: Brazil.
All three fights were reported by Combate.
Now with six bouts set to go down on May 11 at UFC 237, the event remains without a main event. And after Amanda Nunes’ recent chiming in about how she won’t be ready to fight by then, it leaves us with plenty of speculation as to what could end up getting that headliner spot.
As for the rest of the fights, here’s what’s in store as of right now.
- Strawweight – 115lbs: (C)Rose Namajunas vs. Jessica Andrade
- Middleweight – 185lbs: Anderson Silva vs. Jared Cannonier
- Light heavyweight – 205lbs: Antônio Rogério Nogueira vs. Ryan Spann
