Undefeated UFC middleweight Trevin Giles took 2018 off for police career, gives timeframe for Octagon return

Trevin Giles

If you haven’t heard Trevin Giles’s name in a while there’s a good reason for that.

The undefeated UFC middleweight hasn’t competed since a Dec. 2017 TKO win over Antônio Braga Neto at UFC Fight Night 123. Instead, the 26-year-old has been working on his career as a police officer this past year, but he still plans on fighting in the UFC in 2019.

Giles explained the situation in a recent interview with Fightful

“[The police career] has been going good, it sucks you know…not being able to go in there and fight…watching everybody else fight, progress and stuff like that.” Giles explained “Some of the newer guys out there are doing really good, so it sucks just sitting by and watching that. The (police) academy and things have been going good for me, it was actually good to finish the six months of the academy. Now I just have a few more month to do as a probationary officer and then in April, I’ll be able to fight again.

Giles (11-0) burst onto the regional scene at the beginning of 2014 and hasn’t looked back since. The Elite MMA Houston product has finished 10 of his 11 career opponents. Highlights of his record include victories over names like UFC light heavyweight Ryan Spann and current LFA middleweight champion Brendan Allen.

The Texas native made his UFC debut in July 2017 on short-notice, stopping James Bochnovic in the second round at UFC 213. The middleweight prospect is targeting April as his return date, however Giles isn’t about to call anyone out despite his impressive record.

“I have nobody in particular, to me…I just take everything fight by fight,” he said. “I don’t really care who I fight, it could be the best guy at middleweight or whoever. It doesn’t matter to me, I’m just glad to come in there and being able to fight and have some fun. It doesn’t matter to me, not until I start getting up there into title contention or something,”

Who do you want to see Trevin Giles fight in his return to the Octagon?
