Petr Yan sidelined with elbow injury

Petr Yan will be taking some time off due to an elbow injury, according to his manager (via MMA Junkie).

Petr Yan (13-1) has gained a lot of respect in the MMA world. Currently ranked number 4 in the bantamweight division, Yan is on a 5-0 winning streak since making his UFC debut. His intelligent footwork, great chin and technical striking ability makes him one of the most exciting upcoming UFC prospects.

However, his career will have to be put on hold due to Yan suffering from synovitis. The condition is an inflammation of the synovial membrane that erodes the bone. Yan’s manager, Daniel Rubenstein confirmed that Yan underwent surgery on his elbow this week. Rubenstein anticipates the recovery time will be 6-8 weeks. Yan shared his own thoughts on his Instagram account.

The Russian to English translation reads::
“Hello everyone, everything is fine with me. 😊💪 🙏 The operation went according to the doctor’s plan 😊. In 1.5-2 months I will be in the ranks !!! 🙏 This injury really prevented me from getting ready for the last battle, and beating and fighting. Now we will plow even harder! All patience and belief in yourself, everything will work out! Thanks to my team @archangl_michael and @ufc for their help in the operation. “To Be a Warrior – Means to Live Forever” 😊💪 💪 💪 Thanks to all. I can work again as the terminator.”

After beating Jimmie Rivera to a unanimous verdict at UFC 238, Petr Yan was looking to fight current bantamweight champion, Henry Cejudo. However, due to a shoulder injury, Cejudo will not be competing until 2020. With that in mind, Yan hopes to fight for the UFC interim bantamweight title against Aljamain Sterling (18-3).

Yan will be focusing on recovering from surgery before he can pursue a potential interim title bout. In the meantime, let’s hope Petr ‘No Mercy’ Yan receives some mercy from his painful injury.
