The future of former UFC featherweight champion Cris Cyborg is currently somewhat murky. After losing her title to Amanda Nunes in December, the Brazilian legend is hoping to return to the cage at UFC 237 in Curitiba, Brazil, in May. However, she’ll first have to sign a new deal with the UFC, which is not a certainty.

Manager Audie Attar updated on the Cris Cyborg situation on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show on Monday.

“The hopes are we can get a new deal done with the UFC, but time will tell on whether that is achievable or not,” Attar said (via ESPN). “We haven’t received any official fight offer but she would love to fight in her hometown. We’ve had some soft discussions about her next fight and her future. She’d love to fight for the UFC.”

Attar seems optimistic that Cris Cyborg and the UFC will come to a new deal given the fact that the former champ is one of the most popular fighters in MMA.

”Cris Cyborg is one of the biggest draws in MMA. And that is fact,” he said. “Even in that last fight, she went in there and didn’t fight her fight and got caught, but it was still exciting to watch.”

Prior to her loss to Amanda Nunes, Cyborg was unbeaten for more than a decade. Her five most recent wins occurred in the UFC’s Octagon, where she bested Yana Kunitskaya, Holly Holm, Tony Evinger, Lina Lansberg and Leslie Smith.
