Yesterday afternoon it was announced that steroid metabolites had once again surfaced in Jon Jones UFC 232 drug tests with VADA.
The same trace amounts of the steroid Turinabol, which forced UFC 232 to be moved from Las Vegas to Los Angeles so Jones could be licensed to compete, were once again discovered by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Agency.
The commission stated that Jon Jones had 33 picograms of 4-chloro-18-nor-17β-hydroxymethyl, 17α-methyl-5α-androst-13-en-3α-ol (M3) (or DHMCT) in his system at UFC 232.
The urine sample which produced the findings was collected from “Bones” on the day of the UFC 232 weigh ins, December 28, 2018.
The following evening (December 29), Jon Jones would go on to defeat Alexander Gustafsson via third-round knockout to reclaim his UFC light heavyweight title.
The California State Athletic Commission has since declared that they will not be seeking any disciplinary action against Jon Jones. As this was the same long-term M3 metabolite that “Bones” was suspended 15 months for following his UFC 214 victory over Daniel Cormier.
“I spoke with the scientists,” Andy Foster said to MMAFighting. “They stand by their original statement. Nothing has changed. We’ve already punished Jon Jones for the M3 metabolite, which is a long-term metabolite. There’s no grounds to charge somebody twice for the same violation.”
Earlier tonight on Twitter, Jon Jones reacted to the VADA findings with the following statement.
“Please don’t feel sorry for me, all is well in the Jones camp. Not giving an ounce of energy to things that are out of my control.” – Jon Jones
Jones is slated to defend his light heavyweight crown against surging divison contender Anthony Smith at March’s UFC 235 pay-per-view event in Las Vegas.
