Jon Jones makes history, becomes the first MMA fighter to be enrolled in both VADA and USADA at the same time

Jon Jones

Jon Jones was forced to enroll in the VADA drug testing program yesterday, this as part of the approval process to have Saturday’s UFC 232 event moved to Los Angeles.

ESPN’s Brett Okamoto was first to report the news that Jones will be the first fighter in MMA history to be enrolled in both VADA and USADA drug testing at the same time.

“Breaking: Jon Jones has enrolled in the VADA drug testing program as of today, in addition to the mandatory UFC USADA program. California required it, as part of its approval of UFC 232 move. Jones is the first MMA fighter to be enrolled in both VADA and USADA at the same time.”

Jones had initially turned down the promotions offer to be put through VADA drug testing in addition to his USADA obligations.

However, after news broke on Sunday that the Nevada State Athletic Commission had denied Jon Jones licensing due to an “atypical finding” in one of his drug tests, “Bones” was forced to enroll in VADA in order to be eligible to compete against Alexander Gustafsson Saturday night in Los Angeles.

While many fans and fighters were disappointed by the news of Jon Jones “atypical” finding with USADA, UFC President Dana White remains adamant that “Bones” did nothing wrong this time around.

After going back and forth with bitter rival Daniel Cormier on Twitter, Jon Jones eventually released a statement online (see that here).

Most recently, the former UFC light heavyweight kingpin took to social media where he wished everyone, including “The Mauler, a Merry Christmas.
