Joe Rogan and Brendan Schaub disagree on Cowboy’s busy schedule

Donald Cerrone is known for keeping one of the busiest schedules of any fighter in the UFC. The man they call “Cowboy” once again demonstrated his hyperactivity recently, accepting a fight with top contender Tony Ferguson on just three weeks’ notice — right after a war with Al Iaquinta. UFC commentator Joe Rogan and combat sports podcaster Brendan Schaub don’t seem to agree on whether or not that’s a good idea.

Rogan broached the subject on a recent episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, mentioning how some fighters — like Donald Cerrone — need to stay busy to be at their best. But Schaub quickly interjected, offering a different take.

“If Donald Cerrone were to take a year off and then fight a title, I’d be like ‘ooh, I’d like Donald to get a fight in [first]’” Rogan said.

“God, I wish he would that, you and I are off on this,” Schaub responded. “I wish Donald would take a f**king break and not fight Tony on three days’ notice.”

Joe Rogan agreed then that, even for a fighter like Cowboy, fighting Tony Ferguson on three weeks’ notice might not be the best idea.

“I agree, I wish he would take a break and not fight Tony three weeks after his last fight, but when Donald fights a lot… as long it’s within reason, that’s the best Donald,” Rogan argued. “He likes to get in the groove, he likes to stay active.”

“You can’t be champion and do that,” Schaub concluded, arguing that a schedule as busy as Cerrone’s is not sustainable at the highest level of the sport. “Name one person who has done that. Name one guy. There’s no [champion] who’s that active.”
