Henry Cejudo is glad Conor McGregor took his advice, but says next time it will come at a cost

Henry Cejudo says he is glad that Conor McGregor took his advice following UFC 257, but says he will be charging ‘Notorious’ next time around.

McGregor made his highly anticipated return to the Octagon 10 days ago in Abu Dhabi for a rematch with Dustin Poirier. Unfortunately for the Irishman, history did not repeat itself on Fight Island, and ‘The Diamond’ ultimately walked away with a second round TKO victory.

Following his first career stoppage loss due to strikes, Conor McGregor received some advise from fellow former two-division UFC champion Henry Cejudo.

“Main event, Conor McGregor… Conor McTapper, I’m sorry and Dustin Poirier. Again, leaning into the same thing, Conor McGregor you cannot just continue to keep pressing people off the karate stance. It’s the same reason why I came away from it. Even though Daniel Cormier says I have the best karate stance in MMA, I had to lean away from it cuz it is a little too dangerous.” Cejudo said. “So if I was to give him some advice, I’d tell him ‘Man continue with the same stance but just become better at distance.’”

Henry Cejudo continued:

“Because people now know that that front leg kick is there. That calf kick has made guys like Justin Gaethje successful. Which in my opinion he’s the one that started it. Marlon Moraes hit me with it, which you learn from these things and you are able to adjust. This is how you evolve as a fighter.”

Conor McGregor recently broke down his loss to Dustin Poirier and echoed some of the comments made by ‘Triple C’.

“A little single disciplined in my approach and stance with mostly boxing.” McGregor admitted. “It’s what I get for picking this bout and opponent as a precursor to a boxing match against Pacman. I deserved to get the legs kicked off me going in with this thinking. This is not the game to play around with.”

Henry Cejudo clearly caught word of McGregor’s comments and proceeded to send him the following message for future reference.

I’m glad you took my advice @TheNotoriousMMA but all comes down distance recognition. Karate stance for distance with boxing heavy punches. Next time I’m charging you!” – Cejudo wrote on Twitter.

Henry Cejudo (16-2 MMA) retired from mixed martial arts immediately following his TKO victory over Dominick Cruz at UFC 249. ‘Triple C’ has flirted with the idea of a possible comeback, however nothing has been made official as of this time.
