Dillon Danis and Ben Askren have had plenty to say about each other on social media of late — and none of it has been friendly.
After Askren’s latest verbal volley, Dillon Danis challenged the wrestler to a submission grappling match, and has been relentlessly pursuing this competition ever since.
“i’m the undisputed best grappler in MMA! if you want a shot at the big money fight [Ben Askren] put this outfit back on and dance for it bitch,” Dillon Danis wrote on social media.
“Who’s the best grappler in MMA? like for me comment for Ben,” Danis wrote on an Instagram post with comments disabled.
Interestingly, the grappling promotion Polaris actually attempted to help Danis get his desired fight with Askren, offering to promote the bout.
“Ben Askren vs. Dillon Danis. Would you guys like a wrestle on our stage? We’d be happy to host it and put it out on UFC Fight Pass.”
From there, Danis encouraged Askren to sign the contract for this bout.
“I’m in,” he wrote. “Sign the contract [Ben Askren].”
Askren recently made his UFC debut, scoring an impressive — if slightly controversial — submission defeat of Robbie Lawler. He’s now expected to meet the winner of this weekends Darren Till vs. Jorge Masvidal fight sometime later this year.
Dillon Danis, meanwhile, made his MMA debut in 2018, submitting Kyle Walker in the first round. He’s set to return to the Bellator cage at Bellator 221, where he’ll battle Max Humphrey.
