Shortly after Roxanne Modafferi defeated Antonina Shevchenko at UFC St. Petersburg on Saturday, she made a callout of former UFC featherweight champion Cris Cyborg — though she quickly added that she was only joking.
On Sunday, Cyborg responded to this callout from Roxanne Modafferi — first assuring the flyweight contender wanted no part of the matchup, then congratulating her on her big win.
“@Roxyfighter you don’t want that smoke. congrats on your performance #UFCSaintPetersburg” – Cris Cyborg on Twitter
It did not take long for Modafferi to respond this message from Cyborg, acknowledging that she most definitely doesn’t “want that smoke.”
“You’re right, I don’t!” – Roxanne Modafferi on Twitter.
With her UFC St. Petersburg victory over Antonina Shevchenko, Roxanne Modafferi rebounded from a decision loss to Sijara Eubanks. This loss was preceded by a TKO win over Barb Honchak and a decision loss to Nicco Montano. The veteran is now 23-15 overall.
Cris Cyborg, meanwhile, has not fought since December, when her legendary unbeaten run and her reign as UFC featherweight champ came to a shocking end at the hands of Amanda Nunes. At present, it’s not clear when she’ll fight again — though that’s bound to change soon. She’s a fantastic 20-2 overall.
