Conor McGregor’s coach John Kavanagh issues statement following UFC 229 loss

John Kavanagh, Conor McGregor

Tonight’s highly anticipated UFC 229 main event between Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov left fight fans with a bitter taste in their mouths.

The fight itself was highly entertaining. Khabib used his strong wrestling to take advantage early in the fight, but Conor McGregor was able to claw back in round three.

Eventually in round four Khabib Nurmagomedov would get the brash Irishman to the floor and quickly took his back.

From there, “The Eagle” was able to lock in a fight-ending rear-naked choke which forced Conor McGregor to tapout.

Immediately following his stoppage victory over Conor McGregor, Khabib Nurmagomedov proceeded to jump out of the octagon and attack his opponents jiu-jitsu coach Dillon Danis.

That action sparked a brawl between the heated fight camps, a sequence which caused a stir of fighter reactions on Twitter.

Shortly following the conclusion of tonight’s UFC 229 main event, Conor McGregor’s longtime coach John Kavanagh issued the following statement on the loss and post-fight brawl.

“Another historical night. Amazing atmosphere, technical fight with excitement all the way thru. All that makes MMA a great sport. Shame about the ending. On to the next one.” – Coach John Kavanagh
