Conor McGregor after UFC 229 loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov: ‘I’ll be back’

Conor McGregor

Last night, in the main event of UFC 229, former UFC lightweight and featherweight champion Conor McGregor was walloped by reigning UFC lightweight champ Khabib Nurmagomedov en route to a fourth-round submission loss. Post-fight, Nurmagomedov hurdled the cage and started a wild brawl with Conor McGregor teammate Dillon Danis.

If this sounds to you like the kind of thing that will keep Conor McGregor away from the UFC’s Octagon, think again.

Shortly after the fight, the former champion took to Instagram to assured that he’ll be back.

“I’ll be back,” Conor McGregor said bluntly, asserting that we haven’t seen the last of him.

With this submission loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov, Conor McGregor is now 21-4 overall. His next most recent MMA fight occurred in November of 2016, when he knocked out Eddie Alvarez to win the UFC lightweight belt. Because he still held the UFC featherweight title at the time, this made him the first fighter in UFC history to hold titles in two weight classes simultaneously.

Khabib Nurmagomedov, meanwhile, is now a baffling 27-0 overall. He can now look forward to a long-awaited showdown with former interim lightweight champion Tony Ferguson — that is, if Conor McGregor doesn’t campaign for a rematch.

What do you think the future holds for the former UFC lightweight and featherweight champ Conor McGregor?
