Colby Covington recounts heated encounter with Nate Diaz

Colby Covington, Leon Edwards

In the short period of time he was in Las Vegas to watch UFC 235, it seems that Colby Covington had some kind of altercation or run-in with everybody else in the city. He crashed Kamaru Usman’s open workout. He ambushed UFC President Dana White at the blackjack table. He got into it with Tyron Woodley’s mother and NFL player Todd Gurley in the crowd….

And apparently, he had words with fan favorite lightweight Nate Diaz too…

Colby Covington detailed his run-in with Nate Diaz on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show on Monday (transcript via MMA Mania).

“Our skill level is way apart from each other. He’s a bottom feeder,” Covington said of Diaz. “It was funny because he walked by me and he said, ‘Fuck you Colby.’ And he flipped me off when I was sitting front row and he walked by cage-side. It’s just funny. Keep that energy Nate. If you’re so tough, let’s see it inside the cage, bitch.”

Nate Diaz has not fought since a 2016 decision loss to Conor McGregor. That being said, he was expected to return to the cage in the co-main event of UFC 230 in April, where he was scheduled to fight Dustin Poirier. Unfortunately, this fight failed to come to fruition.

Colby Covington, on the other hand, hasn’t fought since June of 2018, when he defeated Rafael dos Anjos to win the UFC interim welterweight strap. With this victory, he was expected to get a shot at undisputed champ Tyron Woodley. Yet ultimately, after a lengthy dispute between Covington and the UFC, Woodley was matched up with Usman.
