Chris Weidman is “good to go” following devastating loss to Jacare Souza at UFC 230

Chris Weidman, New York Islanders, NHL

Former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman made his highly anticipated octagon return against Ronaldo Jacare” Souza at last night’s UFC 230 event in New York.

The All American” had not stepped foot inside the octagon since July of 2017, where he scored a third-round submission victory over soon-to-be title challenger Kelvin Gastelum at UFC on FOX 25.

Chris Weidman was initially slated to rematch Luke Rochold at last night’s UFC 230 event in New York.

However, “Rocky” was forced to pullout of the contest after suffering multiple injuries.

With that said, the promotion quickly found Chris Weidman a replacement in the form of Ronaldo Souza who was already slated for the event.

Yesterday’s UFC 230 co-main event exceeded everyone’s expectations, as for the better part of twelve minutes Chris Weidman and Ronaldo Souza proceed to trade punches in what can only be described as an absolute war.

Late in round three the former Strikeforce champion, Souza, was able to rock Chris Weidman with a right hand which sent the “All American” crashing to the canvas.

Initially the referee thought Weidman might be able to continue, a presumption which forced “Jacare” to land a couple of unnecessary hammer fists.

The shocking setback served as Chris Weidman’s fourth loss in his past five fights.

The former UFC middleweight kingpin has suffered stoppage losses to Yoel Romero, Gegard Mousasi, Luke Rockhold and the aforementioned Ronaldo Souza during that stretch.

Shortly following his devastating loss to “Jacare” Souza at UFC 230, ESPN’s Brett Okamoto reported that he spoke to someone with Chris Weidman who said the former champion is “good to go”.

Just spoke to someone who is with Chris Weidman … “Chris is good to go. We are drinking Bud Lite and eating pizza while his dad roasts everyone. All is well.” – Brett Okamoto (ESPN)
