UFC 232 took place on December 29. However, it almost didn’t due to some pre-fight shenanigans.
A week prior to the event date, it was announced that one half of the event’s main event in Jon ‘Bones’ Jones had an ‘atypical finding‘ in one of his pre-fight drug tests. Because of this, UFC 232 was moved from its original location of Las Vegas, Nevada to Los Angeles, California.
This was because the Nevada State Athletic Commission wouldn’t grant Jones a license to compete.
Therefore the show went on, and the event provided us with plenty of great action. But that doesn’t mean that it was a relaxing fight week in the lead-up.
One of the UFC veterans on the card was ‘Alpha’ Cat Zingano who was making her featherweight debut at the event on the prelims.
“It was awful,” Zingano said when speaking about the UFC 232 fight week on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show. “I know that there was like this elephant in the room for all of us. Like, every time we all got around each other I know we wanted to talk about it but it was kinda like we realized, ‘Okay, you don’t fight, you don’t get paid,’
“But at the same time, it was embarrassing. It was embarrassing to be blatantly shown that we actually don’t really matter. Like, Jon Jones matters… Pay-per-view matters. It was rough. We put everything into this sport, including our integrity. That was definitely tested all week long.”
Unfortunately for Zingano, she would go on to lose her fight against Megan Anderson by first-round TKO.
Due to some controversy surrounding the loss, Zingano does, in fact, plan to appeal the loss.
