Ben Askren travelled to London this past weekend with intentions of confronting former UFC welterweight title challenger Darren Till.
The rivals, who have gone back and forth on social media for months, actually had a brief encounter at the UFC London weigh-ins.
It was expected that Ben Askren would later enter the octagon and challenge Darren Till, this after “The Gorilla” defeated Jorge Masvidal in the UFC London main event.
That of course didn’t happen, as “Gamebred” went on to starch the Liverpool native with a brutal second round knockout.
The loss marked Till’s second stoppage defeat in a row, and subsequently put a stop to any plans of a Ben Askren grudge match, at least for the foreseeable future.
“Funky’s” initial reaction to Till’s devastating loss was that of sympathy.
However, Askren’s tune changed yesterday evening shortly after Darren Till finally broke his silence on the loss.
The former Bellator and ONE champion captioned and old tweet that Darren Till had proceeded to roast “The Gorilla” with the following.
“Hey @darrentill2 your performance was shit. You got knocked dead, Boom Roasted.” – Ben Askren
“Funky” made his highly anticipated octagon debut earlier this month at UFC 235, where he scored a controversial submission win over Robbie Lawler.
UFC President Dana White has since stated his intentions of booking an immediate rematch between Askren and “Ruthless”.
As for Darren Till, the Liverpool native will likely be taking some time off after his loss to Masvidal.
