UFC Fight Night 120 athlete outfitting pay: card gets highest non-PPV payout ever

Dustin Poirier, Patricky Freire

Last night, the UFC touched down in Norfolk, Virginia with the riveting UFC Fight Night 120.

In the main event, we saw long-time lightweight contender Dustin Poirier score a strange but thrilling TKO win over former lightweight champion Anthony Pettis. In the co-main event, meanwhile, we saw the probably retiring Matt Brown author a hammer-like elbow KO win over fellow veteran Diego Sanchez. Elsewhere on the card, finally, we saw big wins from veteran fighters like Andrei Arlovski, Clay Guida, Raphael Assuncao and others.

While the purses for this 13-fight card are not yet public knowledge, we do know how much each fighter on the bill go paid through the UFC’s athlete outfitting deal with sports apparel titan Reebok.

Under the UFC’s deal with Reebok, fighters are paid based on the amount of fights they’ve had in the UFC’s Octagon, and in the Zuffa-owned eras of Strikeforce (April 2011 and after) and WEC (January 2007 and after). Champions and title challengers, however, are paid $40,000 and $30,000 respectively, regardless of their experience in the aforementioned promotions. These are the two highest payouts possible under this UFC-Reebok partnership.

Given the UFC Fight Night 120 lineup included a slew veteran fighters like Dustin Poirier, Anthony Pettis, Matt Brown, Diego Sanchez, Andrei Arlovski, Raphael Assuncao, Nate Marquardt, Clay Guida, Joe Lauzon and Court McGee, it should come as no surprise that Reebok issued some of its largest possible checks for this event. In fact, the total athlete outfitting payout for this card registers as the highest ever for a non-PPV event at $245,000.
